Brrr! The KC winter is intensifying and talks of snow and storms are becoming a common occurrence. While normally the cold fronts could be a bit irritating, throughout January they signal something great is around the corner: the annual Special Olympics Polar Plunge fundraising event, which was held this past weekend.
I love the Polar Plunge. It’s an awesome chance for the Credit Union team to come together to support the Special Olympics, and for years it’s been the source of great memories at the Credit Union. Some of my favorites are our pie-in-the-face fundraiser, where staff pied our leadership team, and the fun Bingo night employees held last year to raise funds. While COVID has precluded some of these activities, employees still sold produce, handmade crafts, and homemade treats to raise money for Special Olympics. One employee even is holding a 50/50 raffle based around the Super Bowl score as a fundraiser, so we continue to find fun ways to support this cause.
Our staff’s enthusiasm for the event has become contagious. I’ve been delighted to see that even our newer staff members have joined our Plunge team and become great fundraisers. While our relationship with Special Olympics began through their partnerships with law enforcement agencies, but I’m so proud of how our team has become so invested themselves. We’ve historically been one of the top fundraising teams every year, and it seems we’ll proudly be able to continue this into the future.
The Polar Plunge was this past Saturday, and we once again were the highest fundraising team in the KC area! I’m so proud of our team’s work to achieve that distinction.
It’s been such a tough year for all of us, but the excitement around this event has been so incredibly welcome. Thank you to the awesome Credit Union employees who worked so hard to fundraise. Thank you to our members who supported us with Gun Raffle tickets, and who in many cases are plunging with their own agencies. And thank you, as always, to Special Olympics for their incredible work with their athletes and events, which is what makes this event so worthy of our excitement.
It was an honor to once again “take the plunge,” for this great cause, and it means so much to do it along with this incredible Credit Union team.
